Trial Period?
« on: October 31, 2011, 09:55:10 AM »

I didnít know PCC had a trial period?  I wish I would have known that because I would have donated a long time ago.  Does the program stop working all together now that the trial period lapsed? Because I canít get it to load. It asks me if I want to donate I say no because I am offline, and it says that PCC has encountered a problem and has to shut down.  I uninstalled and reinstalled it and that didnít work.  Please help! I donít like leaving the place unprotected.

As a side note, the program crashed 10 minutes after I left the house the last time. Are multiple crashes common?

I was sure I had removed trial code!
 (CZB)
The multi crashes are uncommon it may be from the camera option which needs work after X10 came out with the va12a.
I failed to get it working correctly with win7 64 bit and obviously introduced a bug. (cB)
I'm going to the city tomorrow for a few days so I'll try to get some time to look into the code.
Else it will be a few weeks before I get back from a hunt.

Should I just hang on until you get back to me or should I just donate?

It is up to you!
If you donate I'll get the unlock info out to you today or tomorrow for sure.
If I don't get a chance to dig into the code when I'm in town it could be a few weeks before I can.
I know you don't wish to leave the place unwatched.
If I remember right the trial gets info from the mysettings xml date created.
Creating a new one would reset the trial but if you had lots of settings it would be a pain.

So donating would fix this problem?
Because the trial version has expired is this the reason why the program won't open?

You've helped me so much as it is, it's the least i can do! And just because I've donated, I can tell your not going to just leave me hanging there if I have another issue. Your right, I'll be going up next week, all week, then I won't be there for three weeks so, I'd like to get it going. Bling Bling hunting money coming! Unlocking can be done with a flash drive? You said before that I wouldn't have to bring the tower back home, correct?

Unlocking doesn't require internet connection.

If I remember the trial locked the program once it timed out.
If this is the case a new settings file will need to be created unless I can get looking at the code for you.

I found some old code on a flash drive for my note book.
It seems once the trial has timed out PCC shuts down, this throws an error as it also is trying to load the settings while it is closing.
I'll get that fixed in the next update.
It looks like I had originaly coded for a 40 day trial but that may have changed with newer builds.

I was going to ask you that, if I can't open the program, how can I unlock the software?

Since I was able to find old code and locate the lines of code for the trial version I think I can get a quick fix out today or tomorrow.
Once the notification screen pops up about donating if you click yes it will allow you to proceed and enter in the Unlock info.
It will also popup the PCC home page to allow one to make a donation if connected to the internet.
This will also fix the PCC error screen that pops up.
Clicking "No" to the donation popup will close PCC without the error.

With each new build I change up how a trial version works.
Users of the full version will not be affected by this.
The reasoning behind this is so users may be more apt to donate to avoid having to create workarounds with each update.
Also I've seen videos of users setups advertising or promoting other software but it is obvious that PCC is running as well to handle some tasks :(
Not so obvious to others and not to the users as they never bothered to unlock.
This fact is not a big deal but PCC should have been mentioned as well in the video. >:(
Currently PCC doesn't become unusable once a trial period is over.
A simple restart of the program will get everything working again.
So if your running the trial version and things begin to work strangely or not at all this is most likely the reason.

I would suggest to everyone to just buy it!  You won't regret it!  PCC has a boat load of features for a few quarters in the bucket!    (Chr)     (CZB)

Starting with version 4.0.5.7 PCC has all pop up and sound nags are removed.
The trial period is for 30 days, once time is up it stops working and only a donation will unlock it.
The only notification you will see about a trial period or how much time is left is during a start up.
This will be in the form of a pop up at the 30, 20, 10, and 1 days left stating the number of days left. This may or may not happen with command line calls
As well the splash screen will display days left.
If you start up PCC and leave it running you most likely will not get a notification of it expiring.
Hopefully this allows users to fully test PCC and to make a better decission as to if PCC will suit their needs.
Also the trial period will get reset with any new major update as new options may make it more attractive.
