🌪️Weather Alerter for HG
« on: March 04, 2020, 08:19:49 AM »

I use wind and temperature triggers a lot! (both greater then and less then values)
I know many have or would like rain or lack of triggered events scheduled too.
There were a few reasons for creating the viewable widget, all personal.
1: to compare values and to be sure things (triggering & alerts) actually worked during coding.
2: to learn more how widgets and devices interact in HG.
3: to learn about building a new widget or modifying an existing one.(OpenWeatherMap widget I felt was to big of a task for me to bite off right now)
4: Finally I enjoy testing new updates and reporting issues it is what keeps a project moving forward. If I'm running a customized widget I get confused  as to what is working or not.

The Weather Alerter app doesn't need to be displaying in order for the weather device triggering or SeverWeather E-mail Alert to work, it is just a bonus which some may enjoy.

Is this a new version of the Weather Alerter Program and Widget or just posting them here ?

Good morning,

Question about this - I have an x10 security sensor outside that triggers a light on my desk (the security sensor works great and is a definite upgrade over the other x10 sensor I used to use).

One issue however is that on very windy days (like yesterday) the sensor gets triggered because of all the movement in the trees etc.  During the day, it does not result in the light coming one because I have that as part of the trigger logic (can't recall if thats part of a program I wrote for that or if its part of the Smart Lights program).

But at night, it can result in the light coming on unnecessarily.

I was wondering if there is a way to use the Weather Alerter to have the sensor be ignored when the wind was at a certain defined limit ?

I never thought of doing something like that  with this. It was created as a way not to have to create simple weather macros. Since this uses the same values reported from the open weather map you could create a macro to add the wind value as a & trigger.

After thinking this over it probably would be best not to add the wind value as a trigger & condition as it may prevent motion that you may want to catch.
It would be best to play with the sensors viewing angle.
The nice thing with these sensors is they are easier to play with the sensors viewing angles this makes your mout location less important (other then they must be protected from the elements).

So if I wanted to check the wind conditions be greater than a certain level and ignore the trigger I would add something to the Trigger logic of the program associated to my sensor - right ?  How would I reference the wind speed field (or other weather Alerter values) in the program code ?

Yes you'd  add the les then value to the triggeringof the macro your senso trips. You'd add the open weather map wind value. As that is what weather alert  uses. I belive I have a wind macro on my off grid HG ( I did with WU) Ill see if I can find the actual  value

I just updated my wind speed wizard script. Trigger is Homeautomation.homegenie.automation/34.sensor.wind.speed then used greater then and value. You could use Weateralerter this way however since it uses the HG OpenWeather pull info I imagine it would provide a slower responce. The string of course would be different.
