Error reading HA-Bridge config file
« on: November 08, 2017, 05:57:43 PM »

Ever since installing the latest update, Alex10 is VERY slow to initialize and when I click 'Setup' I get an error message "error reading ha-bridge configuration file." I close that and go on my merry way with everything working ok.  Any thoughts on the slow initialization and error message?  I've reinstalled the latest version including HA-Bridge and cleared the Java cache. The Alex10 screen shows (version "."4.5.6).
The laptop is running WIN7 HP 32 bit SP1.

The slow startup is the new HA-bridge developers changed the order settings are added to the configuration file so when Alex10 starts to read the file it finds info that it shouldn't this throws the can't find file message. I've already fixed this for the next release and waiting for the next release of Ha bridge which is in testing. Should have a new alex10 in a couple of weeks
Off hunting right now

Thanks and good hunting!  I do have another issue now. After rebooting the laptop when I try to start Alex10 it has a problem with Java and opens multiple instances of Java and will do so till the laptop runs out of memory. I've reinstalled Java with no success as well as Alex10.  Same config is running at my other place just fine. Any thoughts?

UPDATE:  I tried uninstalling Alex10 with Revo to clear everything and did a reinstall. It ran but I got a .Net Framework error when trying to change the URL and other errors when adding devices. Closing the Setup window was only possible by using task manager to close Alex10. I tried again with a fresh install on a different PC with the same results.  I was ready to give up. But there was one more thing to try...
Solution: I went back and used Revo to uninstall Alex10 again and reinstalled 1.5.3.4 which had been running well prior to the update.  So far so good! The URL changed without error and the devices all installed without issue.

thanks for the update I'll have a look at the installers when I get back.
if you run the update and not the installer you will get the nets issue you describe.
The reason is the update assumes you already have the required x10 drivers.

I just installed this (thinking about getting an Echo Dot but wanted to see if I could get this running first).

I am getting the same error message as the original poster.  When I click to close it, and then try and click"Start Bridge" I get an error "Unable to access jarfile C:\Alex10\HA-bridge.jar (its a Java Virtual Machine Launcher error).

Am I missing a permission on a file somewhere to allow access to this?

The error is thrown in Windows if the bridge is already running.
Open your browser to 127.0.0.1 to be sure the bridge has stopped.
You can stop the bridge from the Web UI.
You can start the bridge manually clicking on the ha-bridge.jar file in the Alex10 root folder

So I get the HA Bridge web interface by going to 192.168.1.111:2140 which is the IP and post address I configured it for.

Is the problem that the config file has it at 127.0.0.1 because it cannot open it?

If you set up the Bridge IP and Port from the web interface then attempt to run Alex10 with the default settings  that is indeed why your getting the error.
The setting for the Bridge need to be the same in Alex10 as the Bridge UI.
You can manually edit the Alex10 settings  by editing the X10DeviceSettings.xml file. found in the data folder of Alex10.
Change the line that starts with <UrlAddress> to <UrlAddress>192.168.1.111:2140</UrlAddress>

Thanks - that seems to have worked.  I am going to try playing around with this a bit when I get a chance.
