Title: X10 linked IP camera
Post by: Tuicemen on June 27, 2016, 03:22:33 PM
I recently received one of these cameras hoping it would make a nice add to my off grid setup.
Although you can set these up so they work totally off line they need to initially be setup via a SmartPhone.
There is a PC client app just like there is one for the Airsights however you can't setup the camera with it.
These cameras are cloud based!
I received the small LQ2 ball style which isn't much bigger then the old RF wireless X10 camera.
it has a magnet mount not your standard mount otherwise they would fit nicely on a pan and tilt ninja.
I may look at the possibility of doing this in the future with a mod to the base removing the magnet.
Setup of these couldn't be easier the camera talks you through the process which uses sound to confirm connection.
Currently there are 3 styles with new versions in the works.

I posted a small review of the LQ2 on the x10 forums.
I posted some screen shots there too.

I suggested X10 add a standard tripod mounting nut to the base so these could easily be placed on a Ninja Base.
I was told that one of their employees actually did a ninja mod with the camera by simply placing a metal washer in the Ninja. I was told this performed very well.
Guess I'll have to dig out an old unit and test this for myself. ::) :`)
Since some home automation is planed for the next software update controlling the ninja should be possible.
I suspect one would need the new wi-fi module when (if) ever that comes. ::) :`)
